• In 1980, members of the Pilot Club of Cuero embarked on a mission to generate funds to build a community center in Cuero.  Their efforts paved the way for the formation of the Cuero-Dewitt Community Center Development Corporation, Inc., also known as the Christmas Tree Committee, in 1986. Through the combined efforts of both organizations as well as generous support from the community of Cuero, $851,063.47 was raised over a period of 34 years.  Members of both organizations are to be applauded for both their dedication and service to the community of Cuero.

On December 30, 2014, the Cuero-Dewitt Community Center Development Corporation, Inc. presented the $851,063.47 to the Cuero ISD Education Foundation as a restricted donation for the purpose of constructing the Cuero ISD Performing Arts Center (PAC).  Similarly, Frederick W. Fischer made arrangements prior to his death in 2013 to donate $1 million to the Cuero ISD Education Foundation for the purpose of completing the PAC.  The Foundation presented the $1,851,063.47 to Cuero ISD on January 23, 2015.

In a general election held on November 5, 2013, Cuero ISD voters passed a $76 million bond package to improve and expand the District’s campuses, which included the construction of the Cuero ISD Performing Arts Center.  Approximately $6 million of the $76 million was allocated for the completion of the PAC.

The Cuero ISD Board of Trustees, administrators, and students along with members of the community gathered to officially break ground on the new facility on December 17, 2014, and after 36 years of collaboration, the Cuero ISD Performing Arts Center was completed in September of 2016.  Many individuals who worked tirelessly toward this end passed away prior to the completion of the facility; yet, their vision and the work of their hands is evident to all who pass by 920 E. Broadway in Cuero.
