Video Storyboard and Production Plan

MTTC Course - Fall 06

News Event featuring the
American Cancer Society Relay For Life in DeWitt County

The video was shot using a Canon GL-2. I captured the video using a Canopus ADVC-100. I used Adobe Premiere 6.5 for the editing. I encountered several challenges during the shooting of this video. It misted rain several times during the event. Most of the filming was done between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. It was an all night event. So the lighting was not always optimal. I filmed a lot of the event. Next time I will limit what I film. I had a lot of video to look through. I am using this footage to create a video for this assignment, as well as, a longer video for public relations. The intended audience is for those individuals who are considering participating in the next event. It's a "this is what it's all about" type of video. My main goals during the filming process were to get shots of each campsite, shots of the participants walking the track (this is what the event is about), shots of activities and shots of the opening ceremony. I wanted several extreme long shots of the view of the stadium. I used Movie Maestro for the background music and Sound Recorder for the voiceovers. All filming was done during the event (6 p.m. to 5 a.m.). It took 3 days to capture the video to the computer. The computer kept restarting or locking up during capture. It took 2 days to organize the clips. Also had to download the still shots onto the computer. It took 2 more days to edit the clips, add the voiceovers, create the titles and add the background music.

Video File Size: 12.5 mb (40Kbps for audio and 241 Kbps for video)
The Original File Size was 609mb (exported as an avi file out of Premiere) and 12.9mb (exported as a wmv file out of Premiere. The file for this website was compressed in Windows Media Encoder 9.

STORYBOARD:

Shot #1: Participants walking around the stadium track with their team banners
Title Overlay, Cross Disolve (This shot emphasized the unity of the whole event. There was participants of all ages.) I stood still with the camera. The shot was a long shot for the most part.

Shot #2: Overall view of the scene
Cross Disolve (This shot established where the video took place and what the event looked like.) I shot this from the top of the stadium. It was an extreme long shot. This was one of the few shots that I was able to use the tripod. The shot was panned from right to left.

Shot #3: MC opening remarks
Talking Head Shot, Cross Disolve (I chose this piece of the clip because the MC's remarks summarize why most people are participating in the event.) This shot was taken from the top of the stadium. It was an extreme long shot. I tried to zoom in slowly although it is a little choppy.

Shot #4-8: Closeups of campsites
Cross Disolve (These shots showed the uniqueness of the campsites and the unity of the event.)This shot was taken while I was walking around the track. Most of them are long shots although I did zoom in on some of the signs on the campsites.

Shot #9: More participants walking
Picture in picture effect, Cross Disolve (Walking laps is what this event is about, so I chose this shot to emphasize that again.) I stood still for this shot and let the walkers pass. It was a long shot.

Shot #10: Shot of people in stands
Cross Disolve (This shot showed the crowds in the stands. This showed the community support for the event.). This was an extreme long shot. It was misting at the time.

Shot #11: Shot of survivors in stands
Cross Disolve (I included this shot because the survivors are honored during the event and they are a big part of the event.) This was an exteme long shot.

Shot #12: Shot of children’s activities (hula and limbo)
Cross Disolve
(I included this shot to show the participation of the children.) This was a long shot.

Shot #13-15: More shots of campsites
Cross Disolve (This shot was included to show the variety of the campsites.) Most of these shots were long shots. I did zoom in at times.

Shot #16: Relay For Life banner group shot (still shot)
Cross Disolve (This still shot was just a great shot to end with.) This was a still shot.
