These young ladies, along with the members of the 4x100 relay, were the first relays to make it to the finals at the Regional track meet in over 5 years! Not only did these girls win their heat in the prelims, but they got 2nd overall. Running their fastest time of the season by 6 seconds, they qualified the team for the STATE TRACK MEET on May 12th in Austin, Texas! We are so proud and excited for them! Cole Payne, a CHS senior, is an outstanding member of the Cuero Gobbler Baseball Team.  On Senior Night, Cole led the Gobblers to a 7-0 victory over Somerset.  This also helped the Gobblers finish the season with an undefeated district record of (8-0). Cole pitched 6 innings, allowing only 2 hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.  He also went 3 for 4 at the plate, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 more.  Cole has served as a team captain and provided great leadership for the 2018 Gobblers.  He also does an excellent job in the classroom maintaining a 3.6 GPA.  Way to go, Cole!

STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:

Ainsley Reeve, a CHS junior, has been a huge factor for the 2018 Cuero Lady Gobbler Softball team.  Although she has battled injury Ainsley continues to prove that she is a force in the heart of a highly competitive Lady Gobbler lineup. She hit a pivotal homerun in a big district home game against Somerset in which she also had a career high of 5 RBIS. She continued the next week again with another big homerun in a crucial game against Pleasanton. Defensively, her ability to adjust to a new position as a first basemen has proven impactful for the Lady Gobbler defense. Her ability to receive thrown balls has helped the program out of a jam on more than one occasion.  Ainsley continues to learn and instill knowledge among young players and athletes in the program, which has allowed others to succeed as well. In the classroom, Ainsley takes her role as a student athlete seriously and does what it takes to maintain her grades. This aspect makes her extremely valuable to the overall Lady Gobbler Athletic Program. Congratulations Ainsley!

AINSLEY R.

STUDENT ATHLETE OF WEEK:

Clayre Pullin, a CHS freshmen, competed at the district golf tournament where she shot her season best 98 on both days. Playing as a medalist, she made it out of district and on to regionals on her own merit by being one of the top scores at the tournament. This spring, Clayre has juggled her golf and track schedules while competing in both sporting events and staying on top of her school work. Great job, Clayre!

Dear Gobbler Family,

There was a HOAX bomb threat post that went out in Clovis, New Mexico at Clovis High School(CHS) a month ago. One of our students reposted it today. Cuero Police contacted Clovis PD and confirmed. There is no threat at Cuero ISD, this is a HOAX. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. We will deal with the students involved in the strictest possible manner.  The safety of our children is still the number one concern of Cuero ISD.

God bless,  Be Safe,  and Go Mean Green.

Even though we hold drills annually, this will be an extra drill that will be audited in conjunction with the Cuero Police Department. The safety of our children is still our number one concern at Cuero ISD and we are doing everything within our power to make the community and our children feel safe. While these drills are occurring, there will be delays in services; but, do not panic we will get to you as soon as the drills are over (around 10 minutes). Before and after the drill we will be talking to our students and explaining the importance of these drills so they feel safe and remove any fears they may have.

Flu Info

We are starting the new year with a bang! Flu numbers have peaked during our time off for Christmas break. Learn ways to protect yourself and your family from the flu virus.

Five simple steps you can take to reduce your chances of getting — or spreading — the flu:

1.Get vaccinated. It is not too late to get a flu shot.

2.Wash hands frequently.

3.Cover coughs and sneezes.

4.Stay home if you’re sick. Each child needs to be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine.

5.Convince those around you to follow steps 1 - 4.

Watch our web page for flu info and resources.

Homecoming

Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week

Jordan Whittington has been nominated for the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week award, presented by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and Wells Fargo in conjunction with the Texas Bowl.

Jordan is one of the ten nominees for the weekly statewide award, which is 100% decided by fan voting. The poll, located at www.texasfootball.com closes Friday at noon. The recipe for success, we’ve found, is schools that utilize social media to spread the word to their students, faculty, staff, coaches, spirit organizations, parents and anyone that supports their team and community.

Additionally, we have set up a Facebook page and Twitter feed:

Claevon was an integral part of the Cuero Varsity Track team this season. He ran on all 3 relays in almost every meet The Gobblers attended. Through hard work he was able to bring his times down each week as the season progressed. He was also the first and only member of the district champion 1600 meter relay to run under 50 seconds this year. Claevon has made great strides in track after being injured his sophomore year, which prevented him from participating last year. Claevon has a work ethic second to none and a great desire to compete at a high level. We are looking forward to even greater things from Claevon in football and track his senior year.  Way to go Claevon!

Spinal Screenings

In accordance with Texas Law, Cuero ISD Health services will be performing mandatory Spinal screenings for all 5th and 8th graders. This screening is done to detect abnormal curvature of the spine that can appear during the years of rapid growth. It is most important to detect the abnormality early so treatment can be provided. Without treatment, undetected scoliosis can worsen rapidly during the growth years and result in physical deformity, limitation of physical activity and other more serious complications.

Dates of screening:

Hunt 5th grade: Thurs., March 8th

CJHS 8th grade: Tues. and Wed., March 6th and 7th

Girls will be screened in their sports bra and boys will be screened with no shirt to assess the spine.  If a child shows any signs of a possible deformity, parents will be notified in a written packet from their campus nurse.  For any questions please notify your campus nurse or 275-1900 ext.117. Working together we can have healthy students.

STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:

Claevon Patton,  a CHS senior, will be running the 400 meter dash on Saturday, May 12th in Austin, at the state track meet. For the past 2 years Claevon has been one of the main cogs on the Gobbler track team. He ran on the 4x100 team that finished 5th at the state track meet last year. This year his leadership has been an inspiration to the Gobbler track team. He has run on all three relays this year along with running the 400 meter dash. His best time this year is 49.20 and this will put him in the running to get a medal Saturday. After graduating at the end of May, Claevon plans on attending Southwest Texas State in San Marcos and playing football. Thank you Claevon for all that you have done for the Gobbler athletic program the past 4 years!

Credit By Exam Information

STUDENTS GET CHANCES DURING SUMMER TO “TEST OUT OF CLASSES”

The state’s education law, the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), will allow students to obtain credit in a course or grade level by passing tests approved by school district trustees.  Texas law, 19 TAC Chapter 74, allows students to "test out of a course" by taking a “Credit by Examination" without prior instruction in the course(s) being tested.  To earn credit for a grade or a subject the student must answer 80% of the questions correctly.  In accordance with local school district policy, a student in any of Grades 6-12 may be given credit for an academic subject in which he or she had some prior instruction, if the student scores 70% on the test.  The tests are rigorous, targeting all the objectives for the courses covered.

The tests will be administered in Victoria through Region III Education Service Center on June 20, 21, and 22, 2018 and again on July 11, 12, and 13, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on each date.  Registration applications may be picked up in Cuero ISD school district and campus counselor offices in May and are due completed to the campus counselor office by May 21, 2018.  There are no fees or costs to take the tests.

For more information call your campus counselor or Dr. Pam Longbotham at (361) 275-1922.

Cuero ISD Health Services: Flu Season is Here!

Flu is a serious contagious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death. YOU  have the power to protect yourself and your family this season with these three actions to fight flu.

  • Get a flu vaccine. Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine by the end of October, if possible. A yearly flu vaccine is the first and most important step in protecting against the flu. As long flu viruses are circulating, it is not too late to get vaccinated!
  • Take everyday actions to stop the spread of germs. Wash your hands often with soap and water, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and wash your hands often with soap and water. If you become sick, limit your contact with others to keep from infecting them.
  • Take flu antiviral drugs if your doctor prescribes them. If you get the flu, medicine, called antiviral drugs, can be used to treat flu illness. Antiviral drugs can make illness milder and shorten the time you are sick. They may also prevent serious flu complications.
