On Wednesday, December 17 at 10 am, school district officials and the citizens will celebrate the beginning of construction for the Cuero High School additions at a groundbreaking ceremony.
Cuero ISD voters passed the $76 million dollar bond to improve and expand the campuses in a November 2013 election. The comprehensive bond package included construction of 2 new elementary schools, a new Jr. High wing, upgrades and renovations to the Intermediate school, additional high school classrooms, a collaborative school and community Performing Arts Center, and competition gym with Gobbler Hall of Fame. Generous donations from Mr. Freddie Fischer for over $1,000,000, and the contribution of over $800,000 by the Cuero Dewitt Community Development Corportation will go directly to the construction of the new performing arts center.
The new Performing Arts Center will include theater-style seating for 800 and a full-fly loft. A Black Box Theater will also be built for smaller performances. The backstage area includes a set building workshop, make-up room, and dressing rooms for boys and girls. New Band and Choir areas include practice rooms, ensemble rooms, and instrument storage.
Dirt work for the new parking areas is currently underway. The project will be complete in time for the 2016-17 school year.
