Immunizations for Students Entering 7th Grade for 2017-2018

Dear Parents/Guardians of Students entering 7th grade in August 2017:

This notice  is to inform you of the immunizations needed to ensure your student can attend the first day of school August 17, 2017. Texas law requires students attending school to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases. Students without proof of required immunizations will not be given their schedule for the 2017-2018 school year until this proof is received.

Immunization requirements for 7th graders consist of:

  1. One Tdap booster
  2. Two doses of varicella if not already received
  3. One dose of quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate (MCV4 or MenACWY) vaccine
  4. Two doses of hepatitis A

Cuero ISD encourages you to get your child vaccinated early to avoid the end-of-summer vaccination rush.  Schedule an appointment now with your child’s physician.  The Dewitt County Health Department also administers immunizations to Medicaid and no Insurance patients on Monday 1pm-5pm; Wednesday 3pm-5pm; and Friday 9am -11am for $20.00.

Please watch our District Website/ Facebook and The Cuero Record for more details.

The end of the school year is fast approaching and the summer break will be upon us. Families will want to start planning and choosing the summer camps their students will be involved in as soon as possible. The following link will take you to the Cuero ISD “2017 Summer Recreation Programs” packet.

Social Media Challenges for Parents Today

• Get involved and talk with your children about their day and social media
• Pay attention to any changes in your child’s behavior
• Urge your child to report any misbehavior they encounter online and on social media
• Teach your child to keep private things private, especially on the internet
• Remember that “loving” your child means taking actions that may make your child not “like” you at times
• It’s okay to take your child’s phone, search through it and make sure they are interacting with people you know (and in a way that’s healthy)

The Netflix series, “13 Reasons Why” and other challenges and programs have raised concerns over the content and implications for the safety of our children. As a school district we are concerned about the safety and well-being of all our children. We encourage parents to be vigilant about your child’s social media usage.
